Malaysiakini.com is the leading source of independent news on Malaysia, publishing daily in English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil, with a reach of over 2.4 million readers per month.
Malaysiakini strives to be the first to deliver current affairs news, towards informing the country of important political developments, free of political influence and interference. It is also the forum for political discussion, with readers actively engaged through comments, and letters. We believe that independent news and information, and an open platform for public discussion are key elements for a healthy democracy and a just nation.
Malaysiakini was founded in 1999 by Premesh Chandran and Steven Gan, who remain majority shareholders. Today its office in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, hosts 70 fulltime staff, including editors, journalists, videographers, programmers and sales staff.
Malaysiakini has played a key role in the Malaysia media landscape - the pioneering the use of Internet as a publishing platform, introducing the paid-content model for its English and Chinese sections, producing video news on a daily basis on Malaysiakini.tv, and training over 300 Malaysians as Citizen Journalists. Through technology innovation and editorial excellence, Malaysiakini has become the one of the few profitable online media in the world.
In recognition of its pioneering and innovative contributions to media, Malaysiakini has received numerous national and international awards:
The Mkini group includes Mobilekini, Kinibooks, Feedgeorge, Manage4me, NewMediaSchool, CJ.my, Undi.info and the Southeast Asia centre for E-media.
